Where are they?

Where are they?

We in these islands finally have a representative in Washington who makes sense out of the NSA and the Mideast.

In a recent TV interview, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard expressed her opinions on both subjects. The opinions actually made sense.

We have heard nothing from our two senators, Brian Schatz or Mazie Hirono, on either subject. Where are they, and where do they stand?

Concrete results

I have lived in Hilo for the better part of 28 years, and I am thoroughly impressed by the progress being made by our mayor.

In the most economically difficult time in our recent history, Billy Kenoi has accomplished more visible improvement than any mayor I can remember. The projects I recall at this time are as follows:

1. “A friendly place” in Kona to help provide a place for young adults to get off the street and build a future.

2. Major park projects to provide kids in Puna a place to gather and engage in positive sport, and to think and do positive things in their future.

3. Tame the median between the highway between Hilo and Keaau so less poison and road crews are needed to address the constant debris removal.

4. Upgrade the sewer and provide sidewalks to Manono Street.

5. Revitalize and enhance the Bayfront drive in downtown Hilo.

6. Clean up the dump from that hideous metal dump.

7. Install a revitalized stop at the summit of Mauna Kea for phone and bathroom.

8. Create a Kapiolani Street extension from the university toward town, and relieve congestion.

9. The revitalization of the civic center area.

10. The push to resolve our dilapidated Banyan Drive hotel situation.

11. Mobilizing the escape routes from lower Puna.

12. Being an encouragement to all the county employees and the citizens of Hawaii County. Always!

All of the things I listed are a result of actually seeing these improvements. I know there are scores of other accomplishments that other areas of the island are equally proud of.

I feel very fortunate to live in a place where I see concrete results from an elected leader.

Keep it up, Billy!
